NextGen: Critical Thinking for Tomorrow

NextGen 2

Project short presentation

The “NextGen: Critical Thinking for Tomorrow” project is a strategic initiative co-funded by the European Commission within the Erasmus Plus program designed to equip young people with the analytical skills necessary to navigate the complexities of contemporary society. The initiative stems from the need to address widespread systemic challenges across Europe, such as a lack of critical thinking and low levels of civic engagement among the younger generation, issues that often lead to the questioning of fundamental democratic values. To address these concerns, the project proposes an educational model that moves away from traditional formal learning methods, offering instead practical and experiential learning pathways, such us the Debate competition.

The Project is led by an international consortium headed by the Czech NGO Agora Central Europe, in cooperation with Global Citizens’ Academy (GCA), from Lithuania, Inštitut Središče zagovorništva (ISZ), from Slovenia, Institutul de Instruire in Dezvoltare “MilleniuM”, from Moldova and Movimento europeo in Italia (CIME). All five organizations are ready to enforce their cooperation within the project framework but at the same time with a global and more wide and sustainable view, open also to future initiatives.

The primary target group consists of young people aged 15 to 25, with a specific focus on those living in rural or peripheral areas and individuals with fewer opportunities. To reach this target the consortium will involve schools and youth centres in each country, and a team of young trainers will be formed in the selected methodologies. The central objectives aim not only to empower participants’ informed decision-making capabilities but also to strengthen the methodological capacities of the involved organisations, improving the quality of their educational interventions.

The project is divided into three main consecutive phases. In first place the consortium will develop together both the Handbook for the Debate competition and for the card game, the two main non formal methodology tools and outputs of the project. Within this first phase a Training of Trainers involving 10 Under 30 participants will be organized in each country starting from spring 2026. Those 10 young trainers will contribute to Organize, Moderate and Judge the Debate competition.

In the second phase the Debate competition will take place. 8 between schools and youth centres will be involved in each country passing through local workshops, two national semifinals and one national final. This second phase will take place starting from the Autumn 2026.

The final phase will bring  five under 25 participants per each country selected from the Debate competition, into an online learning program designed by the consortium to prepare them for the Civic Action in Lithuania, taking place in the spring 2027 and the local civic actions in each of the consortium countries, taking place in summer 2027.

Versione in Italiano
